Glennis Marie Mason, born December 6, 1954 and affectionately known by her family as "Doll" was thoroughly loved, respected and viewed as a Giant for such a person so small in stature.
She discovered her love of music, learned to play woodwind instruments and this passion carried over throughout her grade school years and into high school. Glennis attended CVS and was a member of their marching and concert bands. Her passion for music earned her a scholarship to Grambling State University, graduating in three years. While attending Grambling she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Glennis accepted Christ at an early age while at Grambling and was viewed as a matriarch by her host of family friends & associates. Glennis was a devoted employee of the State of Illinois Department of Children & Family Services for 23 years enjoying a fulfilling career and holding various positions while a member of AFSCME Local 2081, Master Negotiator, member of statewide committee and a delegate to the International AFSCME Council, also a LaborActivist of Local 2981. She was a member of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, The Coalition of Labor Union Women & Pride at work. Glennis was also a gifted designer and seamstress.
Glennis remained a private and reserved person until the battle was over, Friday, April 24, 2009.
Glennis is survivved by her mother, Augusta Mason; brother, Dewey (Mary) Mason; sister, Vivienne Mason; nieces; Tanish, Whitney, Gabrielle and Alexis: great-nieces: Brianna and Bianca; aunts: Alice Dawkins, Irene Jordan, Valerie Mason, Mabel-Lynn Hamilton and Kathleen Mitchell, all of Chicago, and Dorothy Woolfolk of Anguilla, MS, sister-cousin, Sonya Jordan; god-children: Phillip and Kimberly; Glennis' children, her 7 puppies; and a host of cousins, relatives and dear friends.
